I was walking on the beach near sheep creek and happened to spot a beaver trying to swim up the creek. It was low tide so there was not much water in the creek. I am not sure what it was doing in such a shallow creek that is so close to the ocean. I was quite surprised.
We also spotted a sea otter near point retreat while we were out on our boat. We have never seen sea otters so close to Juneau.
Harbor seals have been hauling out on the docks in Auke Bay. I look forward to this every winter, although I end up with too many photos of seals. One seal in particular was very accommodating.
There is not much going on in Auke Bay right now. However, the harbor seals have been around along with a few pacific loons.
You cannot help but smile while watching sea lions at a haul out. They are loud, appear to be constantly fighting with each other, and they smell awful. All of these things are precisely what makes watching them so entertaining. We did not see any large males, only moms and pups.
I went looking for a northern hawk owl that had recently been spotted in the wetlands. I was pleasantly surprised when I found him. It is such a treat to see an owl. As usual, I took far too many photos.
