We happened upon a sad scene with one of the sea lions hauled out on Benjamin Island. A female had a dead pup she appeared to be staying near and protecting from the other sea lions. The pup was very small and still had the umbilical cord attached to it. I am guessing it was stillborn. The usual suspects, with the exception of a marmot. We quickly stopped by the sea lion haul out on Benjamin Island. I was not going to take any pictures, but I could not help myself. |
