It was a full day of humpback sightings. From Rotary beach I noticed spouts very near Annette Island close to the entrance of Annette Bay. There appeared to be at least two whales. I also saw spouts from what appeared to be one whale far out in Nichols Passage. I continued to watch the two whales near Annette Island and watched them swim towards Rotary beach. They swam right in front of Rotary and continued on towards town via the east channel of the Tongass Narrows. Later in the day I saw a humpback very close to the shore from the bike path. The whale was swimming south toward Mountain Point, so I followed it hoping I could get a photo. I was finally able to get a couple of photos of it as it went by Mountain Point. Unfortunately I had just put my camera down when it breached. Although I was disappointed I missed a photo opportunity, I was glad I got to see the breach without the camera. It was amazing! After I got home I saw more spouts near Annette Island. There appeared to be one whale. I did not get any pics.
