We went for a boat ride and caught a glimpse of one humpback diving In Nichols Passage. We waited approximately ten minutes before we saw it again; It had moved to the Southern tip of Pennock Island. Thinking it would surface again in the same general area, and hoping we could take a photo, we waited approximately ten more minutes. When we finally caught the last glimpse of it, we were surprised to see it had crossed the east channel of the Tongass Narrows and was closer to the shores of Ketchikan. We were never able to get a photo, as it was moving long distances between sightings.
We also spotted a small pod of porpoise from our deck. They were too far away to identify the species.
